Meet Beatriz

I’m a watercolor artist originally from Spain, and I’ve called the United States home for many years.

I studied at the Southwest School of Art and have taught watercolor for many years. My work has received awards in juried competitions and is held in private collections in the United States and abroad, as well as in corporate collections including the Robert B. Green Medical Center.

Watercolor became the natural medium for me because of its transparency and delicacy, but also because of the spontaneity that water brings to every painting. I’m especially drawn to the interaction of light and shadow in landscapes, architecture, everyday scenes, and places I encounter through travel. I love the way those elements can change the feeling of a place and suggest a story beyond what is immediately visible.

Over the years, through painting and experimentation, I have developed my own ways of working with watercolor. I still love the traditional qualities of the medium, but I also explore techniques of my own that allow me to construct images from a more personal point of view.

That same curiosity carries into my teaching. I enjoy sharing the choices behind a painting and helping other watercolor artists understand not only what I’m doing, but why. Today, I do that through my YouTube channel and Open Studio, my Patreon membership.
