Commissions
Watercolor Artwork Created for You
I accept a limited number of watercolor commissions throughout the year. Each piece is created in my own painting style, with careful attention to light, color, atmosphere, and the qualities that make watercolor unique.
Before I accept a project, we’ll discuss the subject, reference material, size, timing, and any important details so that we are both clear about the direction of the painting before I begin.
Reference photographs
Good reference material is very important. Photographs should be clear, well lit, and contain enough information for me to work from. I may decline a project if the available reference photographs do not provide what I need to create a successful painting. Any reference photographs you provide must either be your own or images you have permission to use.
Artistic interpretation
A commissioned watercolor is not an exact photographic reproduction. I may simplify details, adjust the composition, and interpret color in ways that work best for the painting and for my style. If there are elements that must remain a particular way, please let me know before I begin.
Changes after I begin
Watercolor does not allow major elements to be painted over or easily changed once they are established. For that reason, important requests regarding colors, objects, composition, or other details need to be agreed upon before I begin. A major change requested after work has started may require a new painting and result in additional cost.
Timing
Most commissions require approximately 8–10 weeks, depending on the size and complexity of the painting and my current schedule. If the painting is intended for a birthday, anniversary, holiday, or another specific date, please include that date in your initial inquiry. I cannot guarantee rush commissions. The estimated timeline assumes that reference material and requested information are provided promptly; delays may affect the completion date.
Pricing
Pricing depends on the size and complexity of the painting. Once I have reviewed your reference material and the details of the project, I will confirm the price and estimated timeline before the commission is accepted. No work begins until the project details, price, and timeline have been agreed upon.
The largest commission I currently accept is approximately 22 × 30 inches.
Deposit & Payment
A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to reserve your commission and begin work. The remaining balance is due before the finished painting is shipped or delivered. If a commission is cancelled after work has begun, the deposit is not refundable because it covers reserved studio time and work already completed.
